How do I choose a dictionary?
Use the dictionary picker on iPhone or the sidebar on iPad and Mac. Overview, Search and Practice share the selected dictionary, All dictionaries or Favorite words. A session or editor already open keeps the dictionary it started with.
How do I use offline search?
Create or edit a dictionary with its two languages. Open its Overview and download an available language direction. When both directions are installed, use the direction control in Search. Your saved words remain searchable without downloading a pack.
Manage downloaded packs and their sizes in Settings → Offline dictionaries. Packs are shared by dictionaries with the same language pair on that device; removing a pack does not remove saved words. Downloads can need a retry if the app closes before installation finishes.
How do I use example sentences?
In version 2.1.1 on iPhone and iPad, choose a dictionary with both languages configured, then download Example sentences from Overview when a pack is available. In a word editor, review or swipe through matching examples and save the word to keep the selected example. Source and credits shows the contributors and original sentence links. Availability and matches vary by language pair.
Saved examples stay on that installation and do not appear through iCloud on another device. Removing a downloaded sentence pack keeps examples you have already saved. Mac 2.1.1 does not provide the sentence interface.
What does Guided Practice teach?
Choose Start practice or focus on Understand, Write, Listen or Speak. Sessions use words and phrases from the selected scope and saved learning history. Set 4, 8 or 12 questions in Settings → Practice; a small eligible vocabulary may produce a shorter session.
The word or phrase side is what you learn. Writing uses the translation as a cue; listening uses a system voice. Speaking is self-assessed recall, without microphone recording or pronunciation scoring. Pronunciation playback is part of learning, not a hint penalty.
A recently missed word can be spaced out when other suitable words are available. If you have only a few words, repetition is still expected. Four safe answer choices are needed for choice exercises; Understand can use recall instead.
Why has a change not appeared on another device?
Check that both devices use the same Apple Account, have iCloud enabled for VocabularEz, and can reach the internet. Keep the apps open briefly. Mac imports can sometimes arrive late; bringing the Mac app forward may help, but immediate synchronization is not guaranteed.
Do not uninstall, reset iCloud or delete library files as a first step. If a change remains missing, send the app and OS versions, the time of the change and which direction failed. Use a harmless test word instead of sending your vocabulary.
Why can I not hear pronunciation?
Check the selected dictionary languages, system voice availability, output volume and connected headphones. The app does not raise your volume or change your audio route. If listening is not possible now, use the session's unavailable-audio option; it does not count as a mistake.
How do I delete or export data?
Delete words or dictionaries from their management screens, with confirmation. In the Words list, export CSV if you need a readable copy of words, translations and notes. CSV does not contain full practice history or all dictionary metadata and is not a complete app backup.
Saved exports, historical practice records, iCloud copies and migration/device backups have separate lifetimes. Read the privacy policy before attempting a full cleanup. Contact support if you need help; do not send a database or credentials.
What differs on Mac?
Mac has its own native sidebar, toolbar search, word table and Guided Practice. It shares vocabulary and the learning model with iPhone and iPad, while using desktop keyboard and window controls. Some iOS controls, including reminder management and appearance settings, are not yet available on Mac.
