VocabularEz · Privacy Policy
What VocabularEz does with your data.
Your vocabulary and practice history are saved on your devices and can sync through your private iCloud. Offline dictionary lookups run locally after a download.
In effect since 25 October 2026
Who provides the app
VocabularEz is provided by Nikolay Ukolov, the developer named on its App Store listing. The public contact for support and privacy questions is [email protected]. The developer handles support correspondence and operates this website; vocabulary is not uploaded to a developer-operated server.
Vocabulary, preferences and learning history
The app saves dictionaries, language settings, words or phrases, translations, notes, favorites and any retained dictionary-source information. Preferences, reminder schedules and downloaded dictionaries are also stored on your device.
Guided Practice selects exercises on your device using past results. Saved practice attempts include the skill, outcome, date and the word content and language revision being practised. They are learning records, not anonymous usage statistics. They do not include a recording, transcript or the typed answer you submitted.
An active session has a local checkpoint that can temporarily contain your unfinished or just-checked answer. It does not move between devices. Advancing or finishing clears that answer text; starting a new session replaces the checkpoint.
iCloud and Apple services
When iCloud is available and enabled for the app, vocabulary and committed practice history synchronize through your private iCloud storage using the same Apple Account. There is no separate VocabularEz account. The developer does not have access to browse your private iCloud vocabulary.
Synchronization requires a connection and can be delayed, including on Mac. Existing local vocabulary works offline. Downloaded dictionaries, sentence packs, saved sentence examples, local preferences and active session checkpoints are not part of vocabulary sync.
Apple handles iCloud, App Store downloads and optional App Store or TestFlight diagnostics under its own policies and your settings. The app does not request payment details or contain an advertising or third-party analytics SDK.
Offline dictionary downloads
Downloading a language direction contacts download.wikdict.com. The provider and its infrastructure receive normal connection information, such as your IP address and the requested language-pair file. Availability and download size depend on the pair.
After installation, search queries run against the local database. The app does not send those lookup queries or your saved vocabulary to the dictionary provider. Downloaded packs are excluded from normal device backups and must be managed or downloaded separately on each device.

Example sentence downloads and saved examples
In version 2.1.1 on iPhone and iPad, the app checks downloads.tatoeba.org for example sentences for a dictionary's configured languages when it shows sentence availability. These checks can happen before you choose Download. Checking availability and downloading send the requested language-pair and language-file paths and normal connection information, including your IP address, to the provider and its infrastructure.
Sentence matching runs against the downloaded database on your device. The app does not send your words, notes, matching queries, saved dictionaries or learning history to Tatoeba. Downloaded sentence packs are stored separately on each device and excluded from normal device backups.
When you save an example with a word, the app separately saves the word, translation and language pair, the chosen sentence and its translation, contributor names, original sentence IDs and source links, and the pack's import date. These saved examples are local to that installation and do not sync through iCloud. They may be included in device backups.
Removing a sentence pack in Settings keeps examples already saved with words, including their source credits. Deleting a word removes its associated saved example from the local installation; backups may retain older copies.
Pronunciation, keyboard and reminders
Pronunciation uses the operating system's speech voices. Speaking exercises ask you to assess your own recall; the app does not record your microphone, run speech recognition or upload speech for scoring. Voice availability depends on your system and installed voices.
On iPhone and iPad, the app can use enabled keyboard languages to prefer a matching keyboard for a known word or search language. That keyboard-language list stays on the device and is not sent to the developer.
If you enable word reminders, local notifications can display a word and its translation, including on the Lock Screen according to your system settings. You control notification permission and previews in system settings. The app does not request your location, contacts or camera.
Exports, backups and deletion
You can edit or delete vocabulary in the app. Deleting a dictionary also deletes its saved words. With iCloud enabled, allow time for those changes to reach other devices.
Deleting a word is not a complete practice-history erasure: earlier learning records can retain the word content they describe. The app currently has no separate control to erase all practice history. Do not assume recreating a word, uninstalling the app or clearing a local file removes all synchronized records.
CSV files saved or shared by you are independent copies. Deleting vocabulary does not remove them from Files, email, another app or a recipient's device. Older app versions may also retain exports in local app storage.
Some Mac upgrades retain local vocabulary-library backups for recovery. These can include earlier words and practice data, and are not automatically erased when you delete a current word. Device or computer backups may also retain older copies.
Remove downloaded packs in Settings → Offline dictionaries. This does not delete your saved vocabulary. Uninstalling the app does not by itself delete iCloud records, exported files or backups, and Mac app data can remain after the app is removed. Manage those copies separately; contact support for guidance before deleting storage files. The developer cannot erase data inside your private iCloud or device for you.
Diagnostics and app versions
The app writes diagnostic messages to operating-system logs. Depending on the app version, logs can contain error descriptions and metadata, including vocabulary or local file paths. Review and redact logs and screenshots before sharing them.
No diagnostic files or vocabulary are attached automatically when you choose to contact support. Apple may share diagnostic reports with developers according to your Apple privacy settings.
Website visits and support email
Opening an app link or these pages sends the connection information needed to serve a website to its hosting provider, Cloudflare. External links, including Apple and dictionary-provider links, are handled by those services. The app does not include your vocabulary in website URLs.
If you email support, your email address, message and any attachments are processed by your email provider, the support mailbox provider and the developer. Send only what is needed to explain the issue; do not send passwords, private libraries or unredacted logs.
Support correspondence is used to answer your request and investigate the issue. The basis is the legitimate interest in providing support and maintaining the app. It is retained only as needed for the request, necessary follow-up and applicable legal obligations. You can ask for access, correction or deletion through the public support address.
Service providers may process information outside your country. Their locations and international-transfer arrangements are covered by their own policies. The developer does not sell support correspondence or use it for advertising.
Your choices and rights
Use the app and your Apple settings to manage local vocabulary, iCloud and notifications. For personal information the developer holds, such as support correspondence, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability where applicable, and object to processing based on legitimate interests.
You may also complain to a data protection authority, including the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman in Finland. Contact [email protected] for privacy requests. This does not give the developer access to your private iCloud library.
