Weather Ahead · Privacy Policy

What Weather Ahead does with your data.

Calendar events are read on your device. Apple services resolve places and provide weather; there is no developer-operated backend or analytics SDK.

In effect since 26 October 2026

App versions

The cache limits, backup exclusions, private diagnostic logging and Clear Cached Data control described below apply to version 1.0.2 and later. Home Screen widgets and their shared storage apply to version 1.0.3 and later. Earlier versions may store resolved places and weather in Application Support without these retention limits or backup exclusions, and diagnostic logs may contain locations or dates. Deleting the app removes its local container; manage existing device backups separately. Review logs before sharing them.

Overview

Weather Ahead turns calendar locations into a weather timeline. There is no account, developer-operated backend, advertising, or embedded analytics SDK. The developer does not receive your calendar or location data through the app. Apple services resolve places and provide weather. This policy also explains website links and support messages.

Calendar access

With your permission, Weather Ahead reads titles, dates and locations from your chosen calendars. iOS requires Full Access to read events; the app limits event queries to your selection. Event titles and calendar identifiers are not included in the app’s MapKit or WeatherKit requests. The app does not edit your calendar events.

Your calendar selection is stored in local preferences. New calendars are excluded in Selected calendars mode until you choose them. Calendar names and identifiers may themselves be personal information. Your calendar provider’s own synchronization is separate from Weather Ahead.

Optional current location

If you allow location access, the app requests your location while you use it to show today’s weather where you are. It requests city-level accuracy and does not request background location access. Calendar-based forecasts work without current-location permission.

Apple services

Apple MapKit receives event location text or coordinates to resolve places. Location text can contain an address or other personal information you entered in Calendar. Apple WeatherKit receives coordinates and forecast dates to obtain weather. These services may process additional service and network information under Apple’s privacy policy. Weather Ahead does not add event titles or calendar identifiers to those requests.

Local storage and retention

The app caches resolved location text, coordinates, place names and weather results in its private cache directory. Forecast and hourly records expire after seven days; geocoding and seasonal records expire after thirty days. Expired records are removed when caches are maintained during use. Each cache collection is limited to 1,000 entries. iOS may discard caches earlier.

Caches are excluded from normal device backups. Older Application Support cache files are removed when the updated app opens. Calendar selection, onboarding and appearance preferences may be included in your device backups. Backup copies already created are controlled by your device or backup provider; deleting current data does not erase existing backups. The project operates no backup server.

Home Screen widgets use a private on-device container shared only with the app. It contains up to 256 place names, rounded coordinates, dates and weather summaries from your timeline, plus widget appearance and navigation choices. Event titles and calendar identifiers are not copied into this container. The place snapshot expires after 24 hours; open the app to update it. Widgets can request weather from Apple for those places while the app is closed. Current-location widgets use the last place resolved while the app was open, without requesting background location access. Widget weather caches are limited to 64 entries and removed after 24 hours when maintained. Shared caches are excluded from backups and are cleared with the app’s Clear cached data action. Widget contents may be visible to people who can see your device’s Home Screen.

Your choices and deletion

Choose calendars in Settings → Calendars. Revoke calendar or location permission in iOS Settings. Revoking calendar access stops new event queries; it does not erase already saved caches.

Settings → Clear Cached Data removes the app’s saved weather and resolved places without deleting calendar events or changing your preferences. Weather reloads afterwards and creates new cache entries. Deleting the app removes its local container; offloading the app preserves its data. Manage backups separately in your device settings.

Web links

Links open in an in-app browser with temporary website storage. The websites you visit receive normal web requests, including your IP address and browser information, and handle any information you submit under their own policies. Temporary browsing storage is not retained by this browser after its session ends. The app does not expose its calendar or location APIs to websites.

Diagnostics

The app has no embedded third-party analytics or crash-reporting SDK. It writes local diagnostic messages with sensitive locations, dates and service-error text marked private. Apple may collect device, App Store or TestFlight diagnostics according to your settings and Apple’s policies. Please review and redact logs or screenshots before sharing them.

Support messages

If you email [email protected], your email provider and the support mailbox process your email address and message. Correspondence is used to answer your request and retained only as needed to resolve it and meet applicable legal obligations. You can request deletion by email. Please do not include private calendar data unless necessary.
